David C. Smith is the University Information Security Officer for Georgetown University, Washington DC.  As the University Information Security Officer and acting CSO he is responsible for information security throughout Georgetown University.  Under his leadership, Georgetown University has developed detailed risk assessments to justify and fund the information security road map to address information assurance organization-wide, including strategic planning and response to electronic discovery, electronic investigations, data loss notifications, regulatory audits, and awareness programs.

David has over 20 years in the IT industry, specializing in the development and implementation of information security programs, secure business processes, technical risk assessments, and information audit programs. His experience includes the development of information security programs for diverse sectors from both managerial and technical positions. His strongest skill is the diversity between technical disciplines and management combined with a passion for information security.  He has hands on expertise with many platforms, databases, networking, security, and web technologies and can manage large teams to complete complex and long-term objectives.

David has a BS in Computer Science and is current pursuing a MS in Information Services Management.  He currently holds the CISSP, CISM, and CCE industry certification and presents at various security conferences.  He is active in digital forensics and electronic investigations and a member of the United States Secret Service Electronic Crimes Taskforce.
